Overcoming the Learning Curve to Become an Expert
Sometimes one of the hardest parts of becoming an expert in your field is overcoming the learning curve. If you want to be an expert in your field you will need to learn about your industry. In order to do so you will need to educate yourself.
7 ways to overcome the learning curve:
- Free newsletters: the first step to becoming an expert begins with gathering free information. Free newsletters are a good way to start. Look up your industry keyword + ezines or +newsletters. You will find a number of publications pop up. You can check out the newsletters by reading a sample. This is usually on the publisher's website. If you like what you read subscribe and try out the publication. Study the articles and make notes. You can do this in word online or in a copy book. Put the best articles in categories in a folder marked newsletter articles. Over time you will amass a big library of these newsletters. You can use them as reference when you want information about certain subjects.
- Find a mentor: If you really want to take a short cut in the learning curve then you can find a mentor. It can be someone who is already an expert in your field and publishes reports and courses or it can be a mentor who coaches you.
- Reports: free reports are often useful when they are not just a sales pitch. You can also get to know the better authors when you read these. Reports can also be useful and a little cheaper than e-books. Free mini courses are selling tools but good authors will also include some good information about your industry.
- E-books: this is where you can spend a little money so be wise in your purchases. Remember you only need a few good reference books to become an expert. You do not have to run out there and get every book that is being marketed to you. try to choose wisely and always be sure that there is a solid guarantee. Try to buy books from reputable sellers and authors. Amazon.com is a good place to look. Clickbank is also good and they will always help you with refunds.
- Forums: forums are good places to ask questions and participate in useful discussions. These are also good places to get established so that when you are an expert in your field you can answer questions and build your reputation in your industry. You can find forums in your industry by using the search engines.
- Blogs: blogs can be very informative and fun to read. You can also start one of your own when you are ready.
- Articles: You can find useful articles of all shapes and sizes in your field. You can run a search for your industry keyword +articles and find a lot of useful information here. Copy the useful ones onto a word document or just copy the link and enlarge your reference library. Remember to use these articles for reference only so that you do not get in trouble with copyright laws.
You will find that you will never really stop learning. In fact in order to develop and progress you should carry on learning about your industry. You will find there is always something to learn.
