Lovey Lovie
Giving up the lovey?
My daughter will be three on Friday, and she has a lovey - this cute little bunny lovie with ears that she's sucked on instead of a pacifier from an early age. Needless to say the ears aren't in great shape, and we kind of want to start weaning her from it. Two questions:
1 - any tips or tricks on how to do this? Cold turkey? Slowly? Make up stories about the "lovey fairies" coming to take it away?
2 - should we even take it away? Will she give it up in her own time, or is three old enough to do away with it? I don't want to end up scaring her for life...
Thanks so far to everyone - please understand I would never completely take bunny away, just put her away... but I think that we need to just set limits and let her have it in her room. Again, thanks for all the input.

I still have my lovey and I'm a grown woman trying to have a baby of my own.
My parents tried to take him ~ SugarBear ~ away from me, but I would just find him every time. They made up stories about being a big girl now, and all that, but I really don't think that was necessary now.
It was like my security. I had all the love in the world from my parents and older siblings, but lovey was a gift from my grandfather, and you can't just make that go away with age.
Now I didn't take him to school with me or anything, just for a show-n-tell maybe, but not just because I was so attached or anything.
So now, lovey is in a protected spot on my shelf. Sometimes I'll take him down and he just 'chills' with me.
I think in her own time, she'll stop carrying him around everywhere and stop being so dependant on him.
