Exergen Temporal Thermometer - A Buyers Guide
The number one advantage of using an Exergen temporal thermometer as opposed to a typical oral or other type of thermometer is that the temporal is non invasive. It simply is touched to the surface of the babies head at the temple to measure the temperature of the temporal artery, which is fact more accurate than oral thermometers. This reflects the real body temperature as accurate as possible without a major incision. The temporal scanner is made to measure the temperature of the temporal artery which is just below the skin and it is the major artery of the head.
This artery has an almost direct connection to the heart. It is connected to the carotid artery which stems directly out of the aorta, the largest artery in the heart, providing the closest match to the temperature of the center of the heart possible. Luckily enough the temporal artery is also close enough to the surface of the skin to be measured.
So now that we know how this device works and why it is the most non irritating and non invasive type of thermometer, what factors will work for you the best? There are many different kinds of thermometers at very different prices. Cheap products are out there and with these kind of devices you get what you pay for. If you want a device that will give you a good ballpark range you can choose one of the lower end devices. On the other end of the spectrum are the professional grade devices and these have a large price range of their own. The lower end spectrum of the professional series would be a great choice because you aren't getting the doctor grade, surgical precision accuracy needed in a doctors office but you are getting a high quality and highly accurate device that for home purposes will be perfect for you and your children. Whatever choice you make the temporal thermometer is slowly becoming the new standard.
